Tips to follow up during Exams…

Examinations are an important milestone in a student’s education, especially those who pursue higher education in reputed & prestigious college where admissions are determined by absolute cut off and grades. Examination time is a stressful time not only for students but also for their families. Here are some tips that can prove helpful in getting through exams quite easily and successfully.

First of all students should not panic. Everything they need to know has been taught during the school year. Also to study effectively students should choose one spot at home that is well it and well ventilated. All distracting material should be removed from this area. One place of study instils focus in the task at hand. Focus on concepts or topics with which you are unclear and avoid revising those that you already know. Making notes while revising and including key terms that examiners look for helps a lot. Also condensing your notes as short as possible is necessary as it helps cover maximum content in a shorter period of time.

Visual aids also promote information retention. For this students should create mind maps, use illustrations, or pictorial diagrams and flowcharts. All these help one remember content quickly and in a structured way. Researchers have found that the optimal study is to study in small chunks of time like twenty to thirty minutes, multiple times per day, three to four days in advance of the test. By going through information numerous times helps allowing one’s brain to move the information to long term memory for better and faster recall.

While a month long period of final examinations might be intimidating, planning your time by creating a revision timetable including study hours and breaks will give you a greater sense of control. Keep an eye on the entire schedule of exams coming up and do not just focus on the first exam. Students should solve papers from previous years to practice and identify trends and themes. The question papers in final board exams have a set pattern. Therefore, students should practice these previous years papers in a timed environment to mimic the exam situation.

The first thing that students sacrifice during examinations is sleep. Staying awake the whole night before an examination paper, however is not recommended. The body and mind need rest to maintain focus, make decisions, process information and remember important facts. Research has shown that learning consolidation occurs during deep sleep. Sleep deprivation, therefore inhibits true-long-term learning and retention.

Breaks are often the key to ensuring that the information that you have just reviewed is actually stored away for future recall during an exam. Take a 10 minute break between each thirty minute study slot. Move away from the study area, and engage in a completely different task. This will help the part of the brain that has been overworked to relax and recharge. Take a power nap or maybe relax with a quick episode of your favourite television show. Go for a short walk with a family member or consider meditation and yoga. It is equally important that students should take a good diet during the exam month. Avoid junk food and eat more fruits, vegetables and nuts that will sustain you for longer durations. Also avoid excess stimulants like coffee, tea or carbonated beverages, instead of energizing you, they can leave you drained and cloud your thinking.

I hope everyone will must apply it during Exams…
